Digitising waste infrastructure for a greener planet

With an efficient, modern waste management system, municipalities across Europe can do their part in safeguarding our environment for generations to come.

The world generates 2.01 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste annually. At least 33 per cent of that is not managed environmentally safely. The trajectories of waste growth will have implications for the environment, health and prosperity1. With an efficient, modern waste management system, municipalities across Europe can do their part in safeguarding our environment for generations to come. As an IT service provider, our greatest contribution to the fight against climate change is to create critical digital solutions.

We collaborate with local municipalities as they work to implement new approaches to waste management to meet the UN’s sustainable development goal 12.5 – sustainably reduce waste generation – and mitigate the waste growth trajectories. But many are held back by old administrative systems that were not designed to support sustainable approaches to waste management, including recycling, repurposing and reusing.

We have helped build a modern and agile waste management platform that has enabled Kredsløb to increase the number of their waste collection services from 38 to 135 and increase their contracts by +200%

Our solutions have, among others, benefitted Aarhus and Oslo municipalities. In Aarhus, we help the waste management organisation, Kredsløb, enable 355,000 citizens2 weekly with the ability to contribute to the responsible use of resources. We are helping them increase the amount of recycling, repurposing and reuse and decrease the amount of waste that goes to landfill. We have helped build a modern and agile waste management platform that has enabled Kredsløb to increase the number of their waste collection services from 38 to 135 and increase their contracts by +200%3. Thanks to a clear vision to enable a higher and more efficient degree of citizen involvement, the platform has allowed Kredsløb to effectively manage new types of waste and containers, needs for differentiated waste collection and stakeholders who are instrumental in the process.
