Netcompany to deliver nationwide digital communication infrastructure for Scotland

Today, Scotland takes a decisive step towards becoming a frontrunner in Europe for digital public services. Inspired by world-leading digital nations, the Scottish Government’s decision to implement a national secure communication solution across the entire public sector marks a significant shift towards a digital-first model, giving citizens a smoother, more efficient, and secure way of interacting with public authorities.

To realise this ambition, the Scottish Government has partnered with Netcompany. Building on their experience from Denmark, where they delivered a national Digital mailbox solution in one of the world’s most digitally advanced countries, Netcompany has now been selected to create a similar solution for Scotland, tailored to local Scottish needs.

The solution will be built on Netcompany’s AMI platform, enabling GDPR-compliant, secure, two-way communication. Citizens will not only be able to receive information but will also be able to act upon it directly within the platform. For example, by securely sharing documents, accepting appointments, or being guided seamlessly to the right public service.

For Scottish citizens, this solution marks a major shift away from today’s fragmented landscape, where communication is handled across multiple agencies and through multiple channels, including letters, phone calls, or in-person visits to public offices, towards a seamless digital-first experience, designed around citizens’ needs. By integrating with ScotAccount, the solution will also support wider ambitions of creating a coherent and user-friendly digital public sector.

  • »By building the new digital communication infrastructure on our AMI platform, Scotland will benefit from proven technology and domain expertise already applied across Europe. Based on re-useable components tailored to local needs, the platform ensures both speed and security in delivery. This approach accelerates Scotland’s digital journey and demonstrates both the scalability and adaptability of our solution to meet varying country-specific needs. This is a significant opportunity to help nations digitalise their critical infrastructure and create real value for citizens,« says Thomas Rysgaard Christiansen, partner, Netcompany.

Following the successful prototype for Food Standards Scotland and NHS Scotland, the Scottish Government and Netcompany will work together to identify the first public bodies to join the service. This nationwide effort builds on the foundations established through Scotland’s CivTech programme.
