»Working abroad as a recent graduate benefited my career«

Only a few months after joining Netcompany in Norway, Magnus Myklegard got the opportunity to work abroad in Denmark on the digitalization project with the Danish Customs Agency. Being a recent graduate, he faced various challenging tasks while working in a foreign country and adjusting to a new language. But, with an unwavering dedication and impressive work ethic, he quickly developed and gained new competencies in his role as a consultant. Today, he plays an important role in the team as they work on integrating a new toll system in Denmark.

Ever since he was a child,

Magnus has been deeply interested in technology. So, after completing a year in the Norwegian Armed Forces, he had no doubts about his next step – pursuing an education in Engineering and ICT at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

“Throughout my childhood, I have loved working with technology. When I started my studies in Trondheim, I finally got the chance to pursue my interest, while also gaining valuable experience working as a developer for multiple student organisations.”

The journey to Netcompany

Having completed his studies as a top student with good academic results, it did not take long before Magnus had several exciting job opportunities to choose between. But after getting to know Netcompany, he did not hesitate for a second when he received an offer in 2022.

“I had gotten quite a few offers from different companies showing their interest. However, the work environment and way of working in Netcompany was appealing to me. It seemed like a friendly place where I could develop my skills together with great people. Therefore, I decided that this was the company I wanted to work for.”

A new chapter in Denmark

Shortly after joining Netcompany, Magnus` journey continued in Copenhagen, where he got the opportunity to work with the Danish Customs Agency. Although working in a new country as a recent graduate was challenging to begin with, a warm welcome, combined with great support and guidance from his new Danish colleagues, made the transition from student to consultant easier.

“My colleagues in Denmark were very welcoming, and I was quickly integrated into the team. Although several of the technologies that we used were new to me, the other team members were always there to help me out if I had any concerns or questions. I always felt supported, which also made it easier for me to learn new things in a short amount of time.

Growth through responsibility

Having quickly adapted to the Danish culture and working environment, Magnus` impressive work has led him to receive more trust and responsibility. Reflecting on his time in Denmark, he considers the experience of living abroad as a critical part of his growth journey.

“Entering as an “outsider” and a recent graduate was a difficult but exciting challenge, which I believe made me develop myself faster, both professionally and personally. Also, being a part of a project that is implementing a new toll system in Denmark is a huge responsibility, and it has been a valuable experience that already has, and undoubtedly also will benefit me in my future professional career.”
