»You never know what to expect«
Michael Matusiak
Senior Developer
»I studied at MCAST Institute of IT in Malta, where I graduated with a BSc in Software Development. At MCAST, which is known for having more hands-on courses than traditional universities, I learned the fundamentals I needed to get started on my career. However, I believe such institutes never fully prepare you for this industry. The most valuable lessons and skills came from actual work experience.«
»Being half Danish myself, I was immediately intrigued by the company’s international roots«
A new chapter
Michael was born and raised on the sunny island of Malta. With a Danish father and a Maltese mother, Michael always aspired to live abroad, especially since his father also relocated from Denmark to Malta when he was his age.
»A few years ago, I decided it was time for a new chapter in my life. At the end of 2021, I moved to the Netherlands. Shortly after, I was invited to a tour of Netcompany’s offices in Delft.
During the tour, I met and spoke with some of the employees, who are now my colleagues. Everyone praised the company, specifically the strong social aspects and family-like atmosphere.«
Finding your feet during times of change
Before relocating to the Netherlands, Michael worked in the IT department of a manufacturing company. Given the combination of moving countries and transitioning from the manufacturing industry to the IT industry he thought it was fitting to start slow.
»However, I quickly found my footing, and I was promoted to a senior position in less than a year«
»I’m proud to have gained the trust of my team and proven my worth in a relatively short period.«
The unpredictability keeps me motivated
»I am a Senior Developer on Team P within APS (Application Support). Our team is dedicated to maintaining, supporting, and managing ongoing development for our customers’ solutions. As the primary contact for our customers, we ensure that incidents, change requests, and other issues are managed effectively and efficiently.
The environment of an APS team is dynamic and constantly changing. Every week brings new challenges, which I find exciting since I’m not a fan of monotony. This unpredictability keeps me motivated in my role, as you never know what to expect. In APS, you must be prepared for anything, and I’m committed to consistently delivering the best possible results.«
A family-like atmosphere
»When I joined Netcompany, I wasn’t sure how I would fit in. However, my colleagues and mentors have always been incredibly supportive and helped me settle in. The family-like atmosphere that many people mentioned during the tour turned out to be true. I believe having such a work environment is crucial because it helps you feel like you belong. For anyone like me who is considering a big move, whether career or otherwise, having a supportive team and a welcoming atmosphere makes the transition much easier and more enjoyable.«
