About the customer

The Danish Business Authority (ERST) is committed to making it simple and appealing to run a responsible business in Denmark. They manage a wide array of tasks, all aimed at simplifying the business environment in Denmark. These tasks cover areas such as international trade, regulatory oversight, company modifications and closures, impact assessments, and the reporting of annual financial statements. Additionally, ERST handles case processing, which often involves numerous manual and repetitive tasks, making it time-consuming and less effective.

The Challenge

For years, ERST has explored how Artificial Intelligence can enhance their business processes across administrative and technical tasks, with AI projects stretching as far back as 2017.

Given ERST’s role as a public authority, their AI solutions are subject to stringent obligations and security principles.

The newest iteration of artificial intelligence, generative AI, comes with heightened demands for transparency and ethical compliance.

Still new and largely unexplored technology, its implementation at ERST has been promising yet difficult, with lots of unknown issues to tackle along the way.

For this reason, ERST partnered with us in 2023/2024 to strategically explore this new type of AI in their business in a rigorous, collaborative, and compliant way.

September 2024. As a trailblazer in tech, The Danish Business Authority stays up to date with the latest technological advancements. Here, Director General at ERST, Katrine Winding, signs a whitepaper on how to responsibly implement artificial intelligence in the public and private sector - as they have done with EASLEY AI.

The Solution

We have assisted ERST throughout their AI journey, from their initial desire to use generative AI in their organisation, to scoping it, and transferring the wishes and needs into measurable requirements.

This collaboration has led to the development of various use cases, encompassing both administrative and technical applications, using our advanced AI platform, EASLEY AI.

Technical use cases include the automation of tedious, time consuming, and comprehensive framework updates, unit test generation, and test case writing – all of which have shown substantial potential for efficiency improvements by drastically reducing the time required for these tasks.

ERST has also found several business processes improvable by AI. In one instance, we implemented a user-facing chat for the call centre’s support staff, enabling them to interact directly with EASLEY on ERST-related topics, significantly reducing the need to for support staff to seek assistance from supervisors.

»At ERST, we are committed to embracing innovative technologies. Our adoption of EASLEY AI exemplifies our willingness to venture into new territories to potentially enhance our service delivery and operational efficiencies«, says Carsten Ingerslev, Head of Digital Innovation, Advanced Analytics, IT architecture and core IT at ERST

»The initial implementation of EASLEY AI has shown promising results, and we are excited about the potential time savings and efficiency improvements we foresee.«

The use cases implemented at ERST comply 100% with the existing technical setup, and the whole process has been carried out with full respect for the agency’s obligations and procedures as a public authority.

Results

The implementation of EASLEY AI at ERST has shown considerable time savings in technical applications.

  • For framework upgrades (Grails), the time required has been reduced by 66%, from 60 hours to just 12 hours
  • Unit test generation with EASLEY AI has resulted in a 54% time saving, along with improved line coverage
  • In the area of test case writing, time savings have ranged from 66% to 80%, depending on the context

Using EASLEY in various types of case processing has proven to be highly effective by significantly lowering reliance on manual work and reducing many repetitive tasks. This has led to quicker decision-making and has freed up employees to focus on more meaningful activities that require human judgement.

Additionally, the higher degree automation from AI has minimised the risk of manual errors, enhancing the accuracy and reliability of decisions and data. These improvements not only save time but also positively influence job satisfaction and employee engagement by allowing staff to concentrate on tasks that are more meaningful.

»Implementing AI within a public authority presents unique challenges, particularly around compliance and data security. However, our initial steps with EASLEY AI have shown us that these challenges can be navigated with the right approach and support. One significant outcome of our journey so far has been the development of a common language around AI within ERST, encompassing both legal, security and technical aspects. This has enabled us to better understand and address the regulatory implications while maximising the benefits for our operations. Our goal is to continue refining our AI strategies to ensure they align with our regulatory obligations while delivering tangible improvements.” – Carsten Ingerslev, Head of Digital Innovation, Advanced Analytics, IT architecture and core IT at ERST.

As a forward-looking organisation, ERST is continuing to explore how AI can further assist and enhance their operations, and this partnership has only accelerated that trend.

Benefits with EASLEY AI

Data does not escape you

EASLEY keeps data and algorithms safely and privately stored in EASLEY. This not only allows for easy model-change, but it also allows full control of what data is shared with model providers and when.

EASLEY integrates existing tools and processes with AI

Most AI tools are standalone products that do not integrate to existing business tools and processes. With EASLEY AI, integration points allow other tools to seamlessly connect with its platform, enhancing them rather than replacing them.

EASLEY is model agnostic

You can use any foundational AI model with EASLEY. This is a huge organisational advantage, as different models can be used across different use cases. For instance, EASLEY can use cloud hosted models for some use cases, and locally hosted models for other use cases, e.g. where national regulations may require it.

No vendor-lockin

EASLEY does not tie you down to a specific model provider. Instead, EASLEY seamlessly integrates with various providers, ensuring your flexibility to adapt to changing technological landscapes without constraints. This approach empowers businesses to pivot and leverage the latest AI advancements without dependencies.
