Job Description

As a Senior Windows Engineer you will be required to work onsite for our global manufacturing client in Derby. We seek a candidate who is enthusiastic about creating solutions and effectively resolving end user and client issues, using a collaborative approach and sense of working as part of a team.

The role will involve:

  • System Engineering and administration activities for the core operating systems.
  • Defining Windows Server, Windows Client gold build and templates for automated deployments.
  • Automation of build and administration tasks through PowerShell scripts and other scripting capabilities including VBScript.
  • Design and implement technical solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Collaborate with vendors and third-party providers to support infrastructure.
  • Fixing of Installation or testing issues, supporting the Design team on project installations.
  • Documentation of detailed installation and configuration instructions for applications and the underlying operating system build.
  • Lead\assist in IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new deployments.
  • Seek operational improvements in end-to-end lifecycle.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Monitor, maintain, and improve server, storage, and network infrastructure (on-premise and cloud).
  • Working on multiple projects across the UK.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a 3rd or 4th line technical support and infrastructure role.
  • Extensive Knowledge working with Windows Server\Clients 10, 11, 12, 16, 19 and 22 including design of automated builds.
  • Design and implement Windows Active Directory domains including multi-domain / multi-forest scenarios.
  • Develop and troubleshoot GPO and related issues.
  • In-depth knowledge of DFS, DHCP, DNS and Networking Topologies.
  • Understanding of Cloud server and Hybrid Cloud deployments (AWS/Azure).
  • Understanding of IT security best practices and frameworks.
  • Skilled in the use of Windows OS across both virtual and hardware-based infrastructures, with knowledge of virtualization platforms like VMWare ESXi and Hyper-V.
  • Good understanding of MS SQL & Oracle DB.
  • Experience in automated software deployment technologies including MECM.
  • Familiarity with backup solutions, monitoring tools, and endpoint management.
  • Experience working with application virtualisation technologies.
  • Experience in Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online / Azure AD / Intune.
  • Experience with networking (firewalls, switches, VPNs, TCP/IP, routing).
  • PowerShell Scripting for automation and management.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Desirable skills

  • MSI/MSIX application packaging experience.
  • Good understanding of Storage (SAN and NAS) solutions.
  • Knowledge of Linux.
