»Linh is a brilliant example of what great IT talent looks like«

»I wanted to show that girls can study and work in IT«
Nguyễn Lê Thúy Linh
Senior Specialist
That’s how one of her managers describes Nguyễn Lê Thúy Linh – and for good reason. What began as a simple belief, that girls can succeed in IT, has become the driving force behind Linh’s career. From her early days as a student to her current role leading end-to-end processes on complex IT projects, Linh’s journey is defined by curiosity, determination, and a passion for problem-solving.

From a puzzle-loving kid to an IT enthusiast
Ever since she was a child, Linh has loved solving puzzles. She found joy in breaking down complex problems and figuring out solutions, which sparked her love for logic and problem-solving. Neither of Linh’s parents had a background in IT, and back then, it was rare to see girls pursuing a career in IT. But her older sister did, and to Linh, that was incredibly brave. Watching her choose an unconventional path sparked something in Linh and inspired her to do the same.
But more than anything, it was Linh’s competitive spirit that pushed her forward. She saw IT as a challenge, a field where she could prove that girls not only belong but can excel. With that determination, she chose to pursue Information Technology at RMIT’s Ho Chi Minh City Campus, taking her first step toward the IT industry.

A journey of adaptation and growth
The beginning wasn’t easy for Linh. In a classroom where she was one of the few girls, it took time for her to feel like she belonged. On top of that, IT wasn’t a walk in the park. She found herself struggling to grasp new concepts and unsure of where to find the right resources to learn. But over time, things started to shift, she figured out how to search with the right keywords and found a supportive group of friends to discuss ideas and grow with.
After graduating from RMIT, Linh began her career at Netcompany. One of her first challenges was joining a project that was already in motion. This was very different from university, where projects usually started from scratch and she knew everything from the beginning.
»I had to quickly adapt by learning how to navigate and understand the existing documentation so I could catch up and contribute effectively,« she recalls.
Through that experience, Linh became more meticulous in reading technical documents and understanding system structures. She also developed a habit of taking clear notes and regularly updating documentation to align with the company’s practices.
»It’s something that helps not just me but also makes onboarding much smoother for new team members who join later on,« she explains.
Solving a problem is like drawing a picture
For Linh, problem-solving isn’t just a technical process. It’s a creative one. »I’ve always seen problem-solving like painting,« she says with a smile. »You don’t just jump in and start drawing lines. You take a step back, imagine the full picture, and then slowly build it up piece by piece.«
This creative mindset shapes the way Linh approaches challenges in IT. While others might dive straight into the details, Linh takes her time to zoom out first. She looks at the bigger picture, understanding the goals, the structure, and how each part connects to the whole.
Once Linh sees how everything fits together, it’s easier to know where to start. She starts breaking it down, then sketches out the main parts and finally plans it all out like layering a painting.
»It’s not just about getting to the answer,« she says. »It’s about how you get there, and making sure what you build actually makes sense in the bigger picture.«

Fueled by perseverance and purpose
To Linh, everyone starts from the same place. What sets people apart is how they navigate the journey. She understands that obstacles and challenges are inevitable, but perseverance makes the difference.
»Skills can be learned, and knowledge can be gained,« she says, »but what really matters is showing up, staying curious, and not giving up when things get tough.«
Whenever she feels overwhelmed, Linh reminds herself that fear often comes not from reality, but from the scenarios we build up in our minds. Most of the time, the fear she feels isn’t about the problem in front of her. It’s about the story she’s told herself in her head. And once she gets started, things tend to fall into place more easily than expected.
Through every twist and turn in her career, two things have remained her strongest sources of motivation. The first is the recognition she receives from her team and projects – knowing that her work matters. The second is seeing how IT solutions create real value for end users. That sense of impact, combined with her drive to grow and improve, continues to propel her forward on this rewarding and challenging path.
