Building What Matters

Tom Bailey on driving change in UK transportation and logistics with PULSE

Tom Bailey is part of a dedicated team leading a significant transformation in the UK transportation and logistics sector. Together, they take on the challenge of turning complex, fragmented systems into streamlined, efficient operations – all using PULSE, Netcompany’s real-time data platform. In this story, Tom shares an inside look at the projects where he and his colleagues are delivering real impact. This is building what matters.

Early impact and breadth
of experience

At just 26, Tom has already built a reputation for combining technical expertise with business insight. He thrives across diverse projects – whether leading technical delivery for high-stakes initiatives, developing proof-of-concept AI models for the transport sector, or managing the buzz of Netcompany’s UK Innovation Centre.

»I’ve always wanted to take on projects in different sectors and roles – whether that’s energy, transport, or shipping,« he says. »The pace and variety enable you to pick up new skills quickly and understand how different industries tick.«

Tom joined Netcompany in 2022, straight into a central technical role for Smart DCC, working on the Central Switching Service for the UK energy sector. His project lead immediately recognised his potential, and in less than a year, Tom transitioned to managing the UK Innovation Centre. There, he created bespoke proofs of concept to show clients the power of Netcompany’s products and platforms.

»You only really get buy-in from the C-suite when you show them what’s possible,« Tom says. »It’s about building those targeted use cases that bring the tech to life for them.«

Turning complexity into impact

PULSE is a control tower for a real-time data ecosystem that allows businesses to share and act on a single source of truth.

It’s a platform, but as Tom describes it, »It’s not off-the-shelf, but that’s what makes it so powerful. Each implementation is tailored – event-driven, combining data flows, business rules, and enrichment to give clients the clarity and control they need to make decisions fast.«

Transportation and logistics operations are inherently complex – multiple suppliers, fluctuating demand, and countless moving parts. Tom leads the effort to bring these elements together into a single, integrated system. By designing tailored PULSE implementations, he helps teams make informed decisions and improve efficiency across their operations.

»It’s a greenfield system – brand new, shutting off legacy tech, and redefining how our clients run their business,« he says. »We sit at the heart of it, as the ecosystem coordinator, integrating third-party suppliers, and always figuring out how we can make operations more efficient and profitable.«

Impact that reaches further

Under Tom’s guidance, PULSE doesn’t just optimise operations – it transforms them, across multiple industries.

»To go from the energy sector to trains to shipping – that’s really interesting to me. Being able to learn so much about different contexts and industries and be able to see the similar patterns, even though that they’re so different, is fascinating,« Tom says.

Through his work with PULSE, Tom is showing how technology, thoughtful design, and hands-on leadership can turn complexity into real impact – building solutions that truly matter.
