»Approach each step with a positive attitude«

Urszula Godlewska shares her insights from nearly two decades in the IT industry
Growing up in a household where computers and coding were part of daily life, Urszula Godlewska naturally became interested in technology and IT. Today, she works as a Master at our Warsaw office. In this story, she shares her journey and insights from nearly two decades in the IT industry, along with valuable advice for those starting their careers.

Urszula Godlewska’s fascination with technology began at a young age, sparked by an environment unique to Poland at the time. While computers weren’t a common sight in most households, her family had embraced them early on. From the clatter of dot-matrix printers to the hum of early PCs, these sounds always reminded Urszula Godlewska of the central role technology played in her family’s life. This didn’t just spark an interest; it made technology feel like a natural extension of her world.

»One of my earliest memories is the smell of a burning kettle in the kitchen. From what I remember, my mom burned a few because she was so absorbed in writing code on our old PC.«

Education and early career

Urszula’s interest in science, technology, and mathematics led her to study computer science.

»I was lucky to have amazing teachers who encouraged my interest in science and technology, and that made all the difference.«

At University, Urszula expanded her skill set, focusing on .NET technology – a foundation that soon opened the door to her first job in IT. But her early career was not without its bumps. She recalls her second position, where she was initially hired as an analyst but quickly made her mark as a developer.

»I wasn’t happy just writing documentation. I wanted to code. Thankfully, I got the chance to prove myself, and that’s when I started working with SharePoint and .Net technologies.«   Driven by her determination to further develop her skills and focus on what she liked most, she decided to join Netcompany in 2017.

»Netcompany is a great place to grow. I was able to transition from a senior consultant into something much more technical, which is exactly what I enjoy. I’ve been supported every step of the way.«

»With programmers all around me— my parents, my husband, and my sister—it felt completely natural to pursue computer science. My sons will probably follow this path as well.«

A place to grow

Now a Master at Netcompany, Urszula plays a crucial role in designing and developing applications that help global clients manage daily tasks.

»My work is constantly evolving, and I like being involved in something that has an impact. I’m currently working on a case management platform that is focused on digitalising day-to-day processes. I’m creating modules that for example, integrate with Azure, Office 365, or AI-powered applications. I get to work on projects that make a difference for our clients as well as end users.« she explains.

According to Urszula, her career path at Netcompany has been defined by flexibility and a commitment to personal development.

»Even though I’ve moved into a more technical role like I wanted, I still have opportunities to take on leadership responsibilities. The environment here allows me to develop, and I truly appreciate that.«

Urszula also highlights the importance of team dynamics.

»Our team has a great atmosphere,«  Ula shares.

»We work together to solve problems, and I enjoy the collaborative spirit. It’s not just about getting things done; it’s about how we work together.«

Finding balance through climbing

Urszula has more than one passion. Besides coding, she loves climbing, whichoffers a window into how she maintains balance in her life.

»Climbing is a lot like coding, actually. Each climb is a puzzle,« she explains

»It requires strategy, technique, and patience. It’s not just about strength. You have to think your way through it. That’s why bouldering routes are called problems.«

With more than 20 years of climbing experience, Urszula enjoys her hobby through one of Netcompany’s After Dark clubs. Climbing also plays a significant role in her overall well-being.

»Climbing empowers me both physically and mentally. It clears my mind and helps me approach my work with renewed focus.«

»When I’m on the wall, I’m also solving problems – just in a different way.«

The power of staying positive and breaking things down

When asked what advice she would give to those just starting out, Urszula highlights the importance of staying positive, even when faced with challenges.

»Our work can be challenging, and not everything always goes as planned. It’s easy to get frustrated when things aren’t working, but staying positive helps you see solutions more clearly.«

Her advice extends beyond technical problems.

»It’s important to stay open and flexible when working with others. Sometimes people disagree, and that’s okay. What matters is finding common ground, listening to different perspectives, and being open to new ideas.«

Her key advice?

»Don’t let challenges overwhelm you.«

»What I do is break them down into smaller, manageable pieces and then approach each step with a positive attitude. Over time, this will help you solve problems and build your confidence.«
